Fantastic Support from Hunter Valley Wineries in the Simulated Wine Show

Every year students studying in the Wine Studies and Sommelier courses get the opportunity to 'don the white coat' and act as a Show Judge. This year we have approximately 30 Shiraz lined up in a re-enactment of class 14 of the Clear Image 2008 Hunter Valley Wine Show which will prove a challenging class activity and part of the students studies in the wine management module. The Sydney Wine Academy would like to thank the following companies for kindly donating the wines and for supporting our students: Tyrrell's Vineyards, McGuigan Wines, Pooles Rock Wines/Cockfighter's Ghost, Tower Estate, Mistletoe Wines, McWilliam's Mount Pleasant Winery, Capercaillie Wines Co, De Bortoli Wines, Krinklewood Vineyard, Pokolbin Estate Vineyard, Hungerford Hill Wines, Tulloch Wines, Bimbadgen Wines, Drayton's Family Wines, De Iuliis Wines, Wandin Vallley Estate, Arrowfield Estate Wines.

Wine Industry Research at SWA

The Sydney Wine Academy is actively involved with research projects. The latest project involves assisting researchers from the Centre for Forensic Science based at the University of Technology, Sydney in their analysis of various trace metals in wine to enable provenance testing.

Similar studies have examined and classified wines from New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and the UK. It is anticipated that the developed method will permit the classification of samples into the various wine regions of Australia and also enable the discrimination of local and international wines from a provenance testing perspective.

Along with the Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI) the Academy will collect samples of wine to be analysed by the researchers.
