According to Luke Davies, who won a gold medal for coming top of his skill category, Engineering – Mechanical Trades, and also took out the CareerOne Award for the Best Performing Competitor at the national competition, it felt fantastic to be chosen as part of the team who will represent Australia.
“My aspirations are to win gold! It’s been done in Australia in the past so it can happen again,” said Luke who will be training alongside two other team members to prepare for the Manufacturing Team Challenge.
The Skillaroos will compete in the International WorldSkills Competition against 50 other countries in front of an estimated 250,000 spectators.
Over the next 10 months in the lead up to the competition, the teachers, mentors and competitors will be putting in many extra hours to train and prepare for the contest.
TAFE NSW – Northern Sydney Institute Director, Kevin Harris, is very proud of the student’s success.
“Our world-class students have already excelled themselves in this competition both at regional and national levels. Now they have the opportunity to show the rest of the world the quality of training that TAFE NSW – Northern Sydney Institute provides.
“Our teachers and staff have made an outstanding effort to equip our competitors with an extremely high skill level. Our commitment to Skilling for a global future will continue to ensure NSI remains at the forefront of vocational education and training in Australia.”
