What is recognition?

Ask us now

TAFE NSW recognises the skills and knowledge you have gained in other courses, life experience, work or training provided at work. You may be able to have your prior learning recognised and credit against a course of study.

When you apply for Recognition, you need to provide evidence from your formal or informal study, work and life experience and assess for credit against the qualification. This may result in a significant time saving in the length of your nominated study program.

"Recognition halved the completion time of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. I didn't need to go over material I already knew and it allowed me to get where I wanted to go faster"

- Jeff Bell, Meadowbank College

What are the benefits of gaining recognition?

  • Under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), all qualifications are nationally recognised.
  • A reduction in the time required to complete your course or qualification.
  • Pay/salary claims or promotion.
  • Recognition may help you meet the entry requirements for higher level qualifications.

Who can apply for recognition?

  • Students enrolled with TAFE NSW.
  • Non-enrolled students. Recognition is assessed prior to enrolment or as a commercial service, a fee can be charged. This is called Commercial Recognition
