Jobs are there for the taking graduating NSI Information Technology students heard as North Sydney College held its 24th annual IT Industry Day.
IBM Australia's Bob Gilchrist told the assembled audience of NSI students, staff and industry experts that the slump in the number of people choosing careers in IT had led to a flush of jobs at high profile IT companies and end-users throughout NSW and ACT.
He urged all students, both current and graduating, to keep their skills as up-to-date as possible to remain at the forefront of recruiters' wanted lists.
Mr Gilchrist said: "There is a severe skills shortage in the industry and as a result there is currently a big market for skilled students completing these courses. Look for jobs using the skills you have learned because they are out there. Keep your knowledge of these technologies fresh and doors will open."
The Industry Day saw students graduating from North Sydney 's Diploma in IT (Software Development) and Certificate IV in Web Design present their final projects to invited industry guests.
Over the past six months, the students have devised, researched, project managed, analysed, coded and completed the three web development software projects that were introduced to the audience.
Two of the projects, Divine Software and AirTight, produced online software games sales and airline management systems respectively to manage the needs of customers and businesses alike.
North Sydney College graduates have traditionally gone on to win employment with some of the biggest names in Australian industry including IBM, Canon, Chubb Security, Macquarie Bank, PK Information Systems, Manhattan and Unisys. |
