Support for women |
 |
The Department of Education and Training TAFE NSW Women's Programs Unit formulates policy for TAFE NSW to promote access and better vocational outcomes for women students.
The Northern Sydney Institute Women's Strategy Unit supports the promotion of positive outcomes for women students by special focus projects and promoting closer industry links for women students. The unit also maintains regular contact with school careers advisers to broaden the industry areas in which girls are encouraged to study.
Women interested in starting their own business will also gain from the advice and materials available from this unit (e.g. Student Guide on Women and Small Business).
Through the implementation of specific programs, NSI continues to enhance the future learning and employment opportunities available to women. Examples of recent initiatives include:
- Female students at Northern Beaches College completed an NRMA-sponsored 'Jumpstart' Automotive course designed to encourage women to take up a career in the automotive industry and address this identified skills shortage.
- A local Northern Beaches enterprise partnered with NSI to fund a program that offered customised training to female students intending to return to the workforce in the ICT industries. The course included mentoring by women IT professionals.
- The Digi-Girls Radio School to generate interest in Information Technology across students in Years 9, 10 and 11.
